My wedding is when? What do you mean this Saturday!

The realization that I'm getting married this weekend has finally come. When Andy and I first started planning the wedding we decided to rent a summer camp on a lake for a long weekend. We thought the idea of having people around longer would make the wedding seem less rushed. That's right I made my wedding into a three day affair. It sounded better on paper. But now faced with the logistics of feeding/housing/entertaining people for three days the task seems a little daunting. We also decided that we wanted to make the wedding as eco-friendly and local as possible. So I've been tracking down local pigs for pulled pork, chocolates from Black Dinah, lobsters, and canning jams for breakfast. I also bought some beautiful local soap and had Autumn Equinox make both my wedding rings and my bridesmaid's jewelry. And while I'm excited I'm exhausted. I still have my shirt to make for the reception, all of my flower arrangements, carrot cake cupcakes, the list goes on and on. Luckily I have lots of help. Especially Janyce- without her it seems nothing would run. More photos to come - Christina

The Move to Old Town

I'm officially a resident of Old Town, ME after 9 years in Bangor. It's a cozy place...a little smaller than my old apartment, but homey. Here's what my living room looked liked when we moved in.

I did dig out my sewing machine this weekend and BF and I are starting to find places for all our stuff. One of the best things about the move is now I'm within a five minute walk to work. I see lots of screen printing in my future!

Here are some views from my new neighborhood.

I'm sure I'll have more pictures to come.

I'm sorry to say our blog has been a little sad lately. Janyce and I have been busy. We've had moves, new wholesale accounts, and I'm getting ready for my wedding next week. But we've still been cooking, gardening, canning, hiking, and working on new scarves and napkins for fall. We'll get back on track sharing all these things and more just as soon as things settle down. Until then we'll just keep on rocking.

Marilyn Carr Retrospective

We traveled to Bustins Island, ME this week to view "Marilynscapes: The art of Marilyn Carr" currently showing at the Ship's Inn Museum. Our guide was F. Benjamin Carr, widower and author of The Story of Bustins: A Maine Summer Island.

Marilyn studied at the Parsons School of Design in New York, the Philadelphia College of Art, and graduated from the University of Maine, Machias. Her artist's eye, her attention to design and detail, and her artful use of color characterized her works.

In her later years, Marilyn focused on small natural objects painted large, especially sea shells, rocks, and flowers.

Marilyn, who died in February 2009 of ovarian cancer, was a resident of Hancock, ME and spent summers on Bustins Island for over 60 years.

Marilyn, a fashion illustrator, interior designer, and art teacher, as well as artist, exhibited in a number of galleries both in Maine and on the island of Nevis. Her work forms part of many private and corporate collections.

The show is a touching tribute to a woman who obviously loved her life and work.

If you are in the Freeport, ME area, please do take the Lilly B, the island's ferry, out to Bustins Island and see "Marilynscapes." The show is running now to Labor Day.
